How AI search visibility actually works

When a customer asks ChatGPT "best plumber in Las Vegas," the model doesn't search Google like a human does. It calls a web-search tool, retrieves the top sources, and synthesizes an answer that cites a subset of those sources. The businesses named in that answer get the customer. The ones that aren't might as well not exist for that search.

Top citation sources
